A solution engineered for the production of large-capacity I-girders and TT slabs
Moldtech has successfully completed the installation and commissioning of a new 800-ton prestressing bed in Portugal, further strengthening its presence in one of Europe’s most dynamic markets for industrialized construction systems and advanced precast concrete production.
The supplied installation consists of an 800-ton active stressing head, an 800-ton passive stressing head, and a self-supporting structure specifically engineered to operate on a universal casting bed for the production of prestressed I-girders and TT slabs intended for industrial, logistics, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
Portugal Driving the Industrialization of Construction
In recent years, Portugal has experienced sustained growth in investment across infrastructure, residential development, and industrial construction. The need to optimize project delivery schedules, improve productivity, and meet the increasing demand for more efficient building solutions is accelerating the adoption of industrialized construction systems based on precast concrete technology.
Within this context, prestressing solutions play a strategic role by enabling the production of structural elements capable of spanning long distances, reducing material consumption, and maximizing structural performance.
Technology Engineered for High-Performance Industrial Production
The prestressing bed supplied by Moldtech has been specifically designed to withstand prestressing loads of up to 800 tons while ensuring balanced load distribution throughout every stage of the production process.
The system incorporates a set of 200-ton hydraulic release cylinders integrated into the active stressing head, allowing controlled and synchronized strand release operations. This configuration is essential for ensuring overall system stability and maintaining safe operating conditions during production.
In addition, the design includes specific two-stage progressive stressing procedures, enabling accurate load distribution control, elongation verification, and confirmation that all prestressing strands operate within the required parameters for each production setup.
Designed for the Production of I-Girders and TT Slabs
The installation has been developed for the manufacture of prestressed I-girders and TT slabs, two of the most widely used structural elements in modern industrialized construction due to their high load-bearing capacity, material optimization, and rapid on-site installation.
The combination of prestressing capacity, structural robustness, and operational control enables the precast producer to manufacture large-format elements under demanding industrial conditions while maintaining high levels of repeatability, dimensional accuracy, and operational safety.
Engineering Applied to Productivity
Beyond its load capacity, this project highlights the importance of equipment capable of ensuring proper force transmission, structural stability, and repeatability throughout the production process.
The commissioning of this prestressing bed represents another example of how Moldtech technology contributes to the modernization of precast concrete plants, helping manufacturers increase production capacity and meet the evolving demands of the industrialized construction sector.
With this new project in Portugal, Moldtech continues to strengthen its international position as a manufacturer of moulds and equipment for the precast concrete industry, delivering solutions specifically engineered for real production environments and adapted to the current challenges facing the sector.
