The term “PPVC” is known as “Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction”. It is a construction technique that involves the manufacture of modules or complete units of a building in a controlled environment away from the construction site, and then transported and installed on site. It is currently gaining popularity as it allows “more to be done in the factory and less to be done on site”.
PPVC allows the different parts of a building (walls, roofs, floors…) to be manufactured as one piece in factories or workshops away from the main construction site. These components are prefabricated in complete modules and are ready to fit together perfectly when assembled on site. Before being transported to the site, the modules are completed with interior and exterior finishes, such as cladding, painting, electrical and plumbing installations, windows etc.
The finished modules are transported to the site and placed using cranes or other specialised equipment. Installation is faster than traditional construction methods, as much of the work is already done.
PPVC construction stands out for reduced construction time, less on-site waste generation, better quality control in controlled manufacturing environments and greater energy efficiency
