With extensive international experience in the infrastructure sector, a leading company specializing in advanced structural solutions has entrusted Moldtech with the supply of equipment for a new precast project in Cuba, related to the construction of a highway bridge.

On this occasion, the Moldtech team developed a mould for the manufacture of post-tensioned AASHTO beams, widely used in highway projects due to their high structural capacity, strength, and adaptability to different deck configurations. These beams optimize assembly processes and reduce construction times, especially in environments where construction efficiency is key.

The supplied mould is designed to produce precast beams measuring 25 or 20 meters in length and two different cross-sections. The assembly consists of two side moulds, two stoppers, a bottom, and a bottom support, which, when assembled, form the final precast element. The scope of supply also includes bottoms measuring 25 meters long by 0.65 meters wide, an electric vibration system, and the frequency converter required for the manufacturing process.

In the specific case of bridge girder moulds, these consist of a base (a universal casting bed, an existing concrete slab, or another type of base) and two I-shaped side moulds with a quick-locking system, allowing the size of the beam to be manufactured to be adjusted through different positions.

The universal casting bed provides a stable base where various precast elements can be cast using adjustable side moulds along its length. This structure is anchored to the ground, and the sides moulds are mounted on it with an adjustable system that allows the width to be varied using a single base plate.

The side moulds, which can be opened manually or hydraulically, are secured by a quick-locking system at both the base and top, ensuring optimal structural rigidity during the concrete pouring and curing process. Furthermore, they are designed with a modular height adjustment system, allowing for the manufacture of elements with different cross sections and their length to be adjusted by adding stoppers at any place.

This system can be expanded by incorporating structural extensions, additional base plates, and modular moulds, allowing for the manufacture of different types of reinforced or prestressed elements. To improve the quality of the final product, the moulds include a pneumatic vibration system composed of independently acting VSP vibrators, a pipe network, and a manifold for connection to the client’s compressor. A heating system with finned tubes distributed along the side moulds can also be integrated, accelerating concrete curing and improving productivity.

Additional equipment available for this type of installation includes hydraulic control units, stressing jack, stressing heads, prestressing anchoring systems, strands decoilers, masks for strands, Giraffe-type vehicles for transporting and pouring of concrete, and concrete buckets.
